Some brands of cigarettes can be less known, but even more popular than traditional and established ones. This is not our personal opinion, we just repeat what our customers say and write in their reviews. They come to us and order less known brands such as Amphora cigarettes, but none of them declares to be disappointed with that cigarette quality.
The flavorful soft pipe tobacco of Amphora cigarettes is well known to many smokers who order cigarettes in our online shop. And very often this brand is called one of the first tobaccos that open the door to beginners in the cigarette world. This, however, is associated with a certain dismissive attitude of pipe “snobs” to these cigarettes – they are remembered as too simple and excessively flavored. However, literally until 2015, it was not easy to find on store shelves on both sides of the Atlantic. And only after the acquisition of this brand in 2015 by the Danish company Mac Baren, Amphora cigarettes had gradually become available.
Pleasant mild tastes and wide distribution provided special popularity of the brand. In the 1970s, it even came out on top in sales in the United States. For more than 50 years, the brand has remained the flagship tobacco company of Douwe Egberts. And even the Dutch Elbert Gubbels & Sons B.V. acquired the brand for their own production, which became very popular with both novice amateurs and smokers with experience. However, the Amphora cigarettes have been modified to be more flavorful, but they did not find much response in the hearts of smokers.
What are Amphora cigarettes?
The Amphora cigarettes brand has been known for more than 150 years, when creating it, the masters of the Douwe Egberts mixture were guided by the rules of Dutch professionals – these are weak, spicy bags created using the main varieties and generous addition of spice tobaccos. The brand was not chosen by chance – the word “Amphora” emphasized the special aroma, softness and aging of tobacco, as if it were stored in ancient Greek amphorae used to store aromatic wine. In 1998, the entire tobacco business, together with the most famous brands, was sold to the international tobacco corporation Imperial Tobacco.
